Dispelling Some Common Chiropractic Myths
There are some common misconceptions, myths and rumors surrounding Chiropractic and we’d like to dispel a few of them here: Myth #1 – Once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to see them for the rest of your life. A Chiropractor’s job is to provide the very best care, but the patient ultimately decides how much he or she wants. Some conditions clear up within a few treatments and when the symptoms disappear, the patient stops seeing the doctor, but other patients may require chiropractic care consistently in order to be able to function in every day life. Some people also realize the benefits of chiropractic as a preventative measure. No matter what the patient decides, the amount of care is entirely up to them. Myth #2 – Medical doctors don’t like Chiropractors. Most physicians recommend chiropractic care and many get treated themselves. Years of prejudice, bias and politics are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care and more and more patients are being referred to chiropractors from medical doctors. Myth #3 – Adjustments will make my joints too loose. No. Only the spinal joints that are locked up receive adjustments. This allows weakened muscles and ligaments to stabilize and heal. Myth #4 – I can adjust myself. Some people can make their joints “pop,” but that’s not an adjustment. Worse, damage can occur by mobilizing a joint that is already moving properly. Adjustments are specific and take years master. Even Chiropractors consult colleagues to benefit from chiropractic care. Myth #5 – Patients with osteoporosis cannot be adjusted. When developing a treatment plan, we consider the unique circumstances of every patient.There are many ways to adjust the spine.
